Food in the movies...
Hey ya'll..

I've got a good question for all of you checking out your friendslist on a Saturday evening-

What is your favourite Food Movie?

Not necessarily a movie with food in the title (although that's alright, too)
But a movie that food is a really big part of the actual movie itself.

I'm trying to gather options for an upcoming themed blog.  I've decided to enter in a few of the "is my blog burning" blog contest things, just to spice stuff up.

Lemme know if you think of anything!
-A.

Chocolat is my favourite, although Ratatouille was pretty good, too.

Fried Green Tomatoes!

Chocolat has the most tempting food though.

I liked Mostly Martha, a German film about a chef who has to take care of her niece after the girl's parents die. It's where the film No Reservations comes from. Food plays a big role in the film. I haven't seen the latter, but that's because I greatly enjoyed the former and generally don't like remakes. Hope this helps.

I'd say "Like water for chocolate" comes to mind. It's a fun movie. It's subtitled. I get a little frustrated with movies that are all like "my family's honor forced me to be miserable", but taken as a fairy tale, I liked it. The magic realism with the food is at times, very funny.

I love the movie Soul Food. Not only is it such a good movie, but all the food they make makes me sooo hungry.

I absolutely adored Ratatouille. I thought it was a perfectly executed example of animated film.

Honestly I thought of the Godfather. I guess food isn't a huge part of the movie, but I immediately thought of the scene where Michael's being taught to cook. And the famous cannoli scene of course. And a lot of the mob boss' meetings are centered around tables/in restaurants...

Ratatouille WAS adorable (:

hmm
I'm not sure I would describe "Like Water for Chocolate" as a 'fun' movie, magical realism yes... intense movie, certainly. It is in my top ten favorites because it is so well written and, for me, powerful (the book was wonderful as well and full of recipes!). There is also that great 'food' scene in 9 1/2 weeks... *lol*. I can think of several movies that have wonderful food scenes (like the fun food/drink scene in Practical Magic)

But if I had to pick just one movie, it would be LWFC. It is one of my favorites - in fact, I bought it for valentine's day this year and my hubby and I watched it together. :)

My favorite "food movie" is a German film called Mostly Martha. It's excellent. =D The American remake is out now - No Reservations, starring Catherine Zeta-Jones. I haven't seen that yet, but I never have high hopes for remakes.

i'm telling you, the best ever is "Eat Drink Man Woman." i would normally be squeamish about fish/meat scenes, but this movie wins me over.

food movies
I just watched Eat Drink Man Woman, and that was very nice. Very food-centric - the opening montage kept making me gasp in surprise and delight. The guy rolls a dumpling in the coolest way!

Like Water For Chocolate was also nice, but there's an entertaining but terrible movie called Simply Irresistable with Sarah Michelle Gellar (I'm a Buffy fan), that is hilarious because it's so terrible and derivative of LWFC. They actually say, in SI, "Your Emotions are Going InTo the Food" with emphatic hand gestures. You know, in case you didn't get it. A couple of cute scenes, though.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory...or Charlie and the Choc. Factory depending on which version you like better. I personally like the orginal version the best, although Johnny Depp does make the new one good to watch :)

"Simply Irresistible" with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Sean Patrick Flanery is a sweet movie! If you like those sappy chick-flicks (like I do!) then I recommend it. Not the best acting, but the food shots are yummy...and so is Sean Patrick Flanery! =)

I have to second the vote for Willy Wonka. You know what I watched recently and was very disappointed (and I went because of all of how heavily the food was tied into the movie) was Waitress. I thought they could've really made it a really good story and I was extremely disappointed.

Food for Viewing
Oh, I LOVE the movie Fried Green Tomatoes; I think I've seen it at least a dozen times! Another favorite is Last Holiday, starring Queen Latifah.
No Reservations looks like a good choice, too.

Who is Killing the Great Chef's of Europe?

Cheesy, ala Clue, but still a good flick (and they are apparently remaking it due for release next year) - and I'll second (third.. fourth, etc) Willy Wonka as well as Simply Irresistible

Babette's Feast is amazing!

More recently, Stranger than Fiction, with Maggie Gyllenhaal as a lovely and ass-kicking baker, was also really great!

I'm probably odd for thinking this, but I thought of Benny & Joon. Not really a food movie, but some of the plot points include tapioca pudding (or rather, the lack thereof), with or without raisins; cereal, peanut butter, and milk in a blender; and others.

...plus I just watched it again today.
