I know, I know.. Long time- no post.
What can I say, Summer is a busy time around here at the Muffin Household. House projects, Work projects, Injuries and all around general Lameness has kept me from posting much as of late. Don't worry, thats going to change soon, and we'll be back up to the (at least) 3 posts a week that you're used to.

However, in the meantime, I've been contemplating a few projects, and I'd like to get your opinions.

Now, these are just ideas, but, would anyone be interested in a Rodney Robot/ Random ninja/ random kitchen character- photo based adventure 'zine?  I'm thinking a full colour 10 page or so mini-zine, Mostly photos, with a different story or adventure every edition. It would follow a general "character + food + recipe" format,  with one recipe being included in each zine.

Also, it would have to come at a price, and I have no idea what that price would be. Anyone out there have any comparison ideas?

This is just something I've been thinking about lately. I've been struggling with my lack of creativity, and realizing its because I feel a bit stifled. ugh. This happens once every few months, I get burnt out and when I come back things are even better than before. So please bear with me.

-A.

Any opinions or ideas are greatly appreciated! (P.S. Rodney is starting his own official blog on blogspot called "Robots and Cupcakes" beginning August 1st! Keep your eyes peeled for the unveiling!)

i'll have you know, i went to Poulsbo's Central Market and found the Dry sodas! i bought 1 of each available flavour; lavender, lemongrass, kumquat, & rhubarb. so far i've only opened 1, and that was the rhubarb... & i didn't think it tasted so great, but i decided not to finish right then, because it could have been because of conflicting flavours in my mouth from eating ...white cheddar cheez-its before hand!
& then 2 days later we drove back (because we were there the first time past 2am & the boys wanted alcohol that was there, but the law kept them from it) and then i took a longer gander at the asian foods section... annnd then i got really excited again! i found the Melona popsicles that you had made my mouth water over before, also! they only had banana & melon, so i of course bought them both. had we not been a further drive, i would have bought more to save for later! i couldn't remember your favorite out of the flavours you had, but i thought it was melon. both were very yummmmmy!

anyways, you definitely influence my shopping & what i get excited over =)

also; back to the original post, i think a small 'zine (like the hacker-guide 2600, if you know what it is.. you actually might) size would be super cool! obviously depending on price, i'm sure many people will be interested! looking forward to new posts again, but we all understand the lack of them, we dont blame you! ;)

Hehe.. The Dry sodas... I wasn't a huge fan of all the flavours that I tried either. I really liked the clean crisp flavour of the lavendar one, but only when it was ICE COLD. Even then, I think I would have appreciated it more if I would have drank it with a nice hearty meat and potatoes kind of meal, as opposed to with fish and chips, which.. I do believe is what I ate while drinking a whole one. (It was still good, just.. I also thought the conflicting flavours might not be helping it much)

Still, I think they're a great idea, and hope more people try them and like them, so the company can be a success!

Oooh Melona pops! Melon was my absolute favourite, followed by banana. I really wasn't a big fan of the strawberry, which was the only other flavour I tried. Those were so delicious. I need to go buy some more myself. I'm so glad you were able to find and try those! They're so tasty!

I try to only recommend food products that I think are either so different from anything comparable that they should be given a chance, or that are so good that I can't keep from telling everyone I know about them, and how they should run out and buy it. hehe..

And about the zine, I've heard of 2600, but never seen one in person. If its like a half size zine, then thats pretty much what I'm talking about. Basically five regular sheets of paper folded in half horizontally and stapled. Quick, Small, inexpensive and fun. I just have no idea how much those things go for, price wise. I'll keep looking into it.

Thanks for your imput! *smile*

what about a small, downloadable 8-10 page pdf? Or an online 'magazine' like NEET...It would save you a lot in printing costs, and maybe one day you can even take on advertisers? Or collaborators? It is a really nice idea for a project though! I love Rodney :)

I like this idea--saves paper, too!

I third this idea, it's not only better for the environment, but it means people like me, who live in other countries, can still subscribe, despite the distance. After all, with the cost of postage to England/ Europe, the price of the magazine would easily double, if not triple. If it's an e-zine, it means you can offer it at one price to everyone.

As for interest, I absolutely adore Rodney and all the other characters, and I'd definitely be interested :D

I love this idea, too! I've never heard of NEET before today, but it looks awesome! I think this idea would DEFINITELY go over well. <3

I love Rodney and the ninja's - they are some of my favorite posts! No...your cupcake recipes are my favor...wait...that recipe for gnochi..or a few of the other meals that come to mind are my fa...

Never mind. My point is, I think its a great idea, either published or as borderingschizo recommended above. It could be a fun way to involve kids in the Adventure of Cooking, plus its just so much fun!

i think that's a fabulous idea. I'd charge like, $5-7 if I were you, to cover printing, mailing, etc. I'd order a subscription. :)

The zine sounds like a cute idea. Enjoy your summer and hope to see you back posting soon. :>

I'd be interested in your 'zine! Hope your summer is nice-busy, not annoying-busy. Make some lemonade!

ps Not to be annoying, but did you wind up sending me anything, birthday-wise? If so, I need to hassle to the post office, 'cause I didn't get it.
Adventures in culinary creativity.[info]a_muffin_story on July 29th, 2007 04:40 am (UTC)
haha.. I need to hassle someone, because I've sent it twice and both times the post office called me and told me it was returned. They weren't sure of the exact reason, whether it was something in transit, or the address, but I double checked the address to the one you gave me, and its the same.

I pretty much gave up. The thought was there though, I just got tired of paying for each subsequent shipping. ugh.
