Well paint me yellow and call me a Simpson!
When I heard that twelve 7-11's across the United States were turning into KWIK-E-MART's as a promotional deal for the upcoming simpsons movie, I searched through the internets to see where these kwik-e-mart's were.

Unfortunately, none of them are near me. The closest one is in Seattle, and although in my past I may have driven in all matter of random directions for random things (Silverdale for a toaster, Coos Bay for cheesecake, central oregon for Afri-kola, you get the drift) I just didn't feel like driving to seattle to take photos of a kwik-e-mart was at the top of the list.

Anyways, I found out that most of the regular 7-11's are carrying the Simpsons merchandise, so.. off to 7-11 I went.

Apparently there is quite the demand for most of the products, so they were out of most of the merch, but I did manage to snag a box of Krusty-o's.

If you've watched more than a single episode of the simpsons, chances are, you know what Krusty-o's are. Here is what I bought-

Part of a balanced simpsons breakfast (no, I didn't accompany my bowl of krusty-o's with a stick of butter wrapped in a waffle, wrapped in bacon, ala Homer)

Yep, they're basically just fruit loops. Nothing special.

Box front-

I guess I should have known better-

Movie poster, as seen on the side of the 7-11.

I guess I kind of thought they would make the krusty o's special, or something. Maybe include a toy or something. But no, I paid 4$US for a box of slightly stale fruit loops.

But hey, It was the experience I was paying for, right?

We're keeping an eye out for when the rest of the simpsons food merchandise gets to us, but in the mean time, if you're interested, check out this blog FULL of photos from someone who visited one of the 7-11's that turned into a Kwik-E-Mart.

LOL That is fabulous. I lucked out for once and actually live in one of the Kwik-E-Mart cities, but we haven't gotten over there just yet. Tomorrow, perhaps.

Hey, quick question for you... I seem to recall you doing recipes from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World. I've finally acquired it, and was wondering - how much of a difference would it make to use regular butter instead of margarine? I know it defeats the purpose of the 'vegan' part, but I can't bring myself to use margarine due to previous experiences! What do you think? Muchos gracias. :)

It probably wouldn't make much of a difference at all. However, I must say, I'm not a big fan of margarine either, but for this recipe, earth balance margarine is AWESOME.

I can totally understand not wanting to use margarine though, but I'm just sayin, earth balance is way higher quality than typical margarine. But butter will work.

That is so beyond fucking awesome.

While I haven't watched much "Simpsons" in the last few years (because it's sucked balls), it is still a favorite show and holds wonderful childhood memories.

whenever I see the one where Santa's Little Helper get's stuck in the vent, I can remember exactly where I was, how old I was, and how that was one of the only things our families sat down and did together.

We watched the Simpsons every single week.

I love, even now, hearing my dad cackle when he watches the show. It's...home-y.

Hehe.. I haven't watched the simpsons much lately for the same reason. It used to be SO COOL, now its just kinda...meh.

I like the Christmas episodes though. I always get that nostalgic feeling when I see the one where Homer gets Santa's little helper. The whole part where Bart gets a tattoo and Homer buys Maggie doggie chew toys (porkchop!) makes me think back to the time where wearing oversized silk screen teeshirts with the simpsons on them, and carrying around a water bottle with a decal of homer choking bart, was cool.

Ah.. the early 90's. *wipes a tear*

Random.. Sorry..
What is your userpic of? I can't make it out and unfortunately my mind at 3:30am drew up a horrible idea of what it is.. Can you please explain?

Thanks. :)

It is a tricky one, sir.

It's a picture of my face, zombified. Hair on top, eye on the left, ear on the right. :-)

This is so cool
but i dont' live near any 7-11s let alone one that is being turned into a kwik-E-mart
i think instead of doing big cities they should have done it in all the cities called springfield (that have 7-11s) because there is like one springfield in every state almost.

That must be why it's Springfield in the first place.
I always wondered that and knew that was the answer.
I just never put two and two together enough to think about it.

I AGREE! I was kinda shocked that they didn't do a kwik-E-Mart in springfield oregon, because Matt Groening is from Oregon.

Really? I thought they had! I live in Eugene, so we keep hearing about this stuff a lot *lol* I think right now its looking like the premire will either be here or in Illinois.
Now I have to go check out 7-11!

This totally made me want Fruit Loops.
Damn.
=(
Adventures in culinary creativity.[info]a_muffin_story on July 7th, 2007 03:21 am (UTC)
They were pretty good. It had been so long since I had fruit loops, I didn't remember what they would taste like. I usually eat grapenuts or honey bunches of oats or some sort of granola. This was like a dessert for me! hehe..

Jennifer[info]jeffylube on July 9th, 2007 05:07 pm (UTC)
This really freaked me out when I saw it because, I just got back from Orlando and one of the things I'd done that day was visit a Kwik-E-Mart! They had most of the merchandise available, Buzz Cola, Squishies, the pink sprinkle donut, the Krusty O's :)
Heather[info]cellophanestarr on July 9th, 2007 09:26 pm (UTC)
The only other food available in the 7-11's are Buzz Cola and Squishees (which are just their Slurpies with Simpsons-inspired names). It's still fun!
eatstars_: sparkle[info]eatstars_ on July 10th, 2007 04:50 pm (UTC)
Our 7-11 only has some products. So on the weekend we bought Buzz Cola and the sprinkle donuts which were surprisingly good. I want to try a different location this week to see what they have.
